Position Description:

David W. Wilson Manufacturing Ltd. requires General Machinists and/or CNC machine operators for a custom/production machine shop.

  • Ability to understand and operate numerically controlled machines
  • Capable of following verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to perform precision machining operations
  • Operate machine shop power tools including manual equipment
  • Duties include operation of a variety of CNC controlled equipment including vertical machine centers as well as manual power tools
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and execute the final product as required then verify dimensions of part machined using precise measuring instruments (micrometer, caliper, bore gauge)
  • Full inspection and deburring of completed parts
  • Inspect raw materials and finished product to meet specification
  • Set up and operation of 3 axis CNC vertical milling machines
  • Use of power hand tools (drill press, angel grinder, belt sander)
  • Produce precision machined parts to specified tolerances

Qualifications:

  • Machinist Certificate of Qualification and experience with Daewoo, Okuma & Fanuc controls is an asset
  • 1 – 3 years working experience in a metal manufacturing/machining environment
  • Knowledge of cutting tools and tool wear (carbide, high speed steel, boring bar, indexable, tapered shank)
  • Able to use measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers and bore gauges
  • Ability to read dimensions, tolerances and specifications from supplied drawing in both metric and imperial measurements
  • Can follow written and verbal instructions and safely operate machines at all times
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work closely with fellow team members and also individually as required
  • Must demonstrate quality and attention to work details along with excellent organizational skills and cleanliness
  • Shows exceptional people skills with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Has excellent attention to details along with great physical and mental capacity

Work Conditions:

This is a physical position that requires:

  • Continuous standing for extended periods of time
  • Some heavy lifting, carrying and handling of objects.
  • Regular use of hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, bending/stretching, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, walking, pushing/pulling
  • Repetitive motion and other job specific requirements
  • Precise hand/finger movements
  • Physical Environment:  Regular exposure to factors such as temperature fluctuations, moving machinery, loud noise, and dusty environments.
  • Sensory Attention:  Need to give close attention with hearing or seeing to work surroundings. Must be able to handle exposure to different smells that may occur in the workplace.
  • Must be able to wear prescribed PPE that the company requires safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots/shoes and respiratory protection (depending upon job) etc.
  • Safety Sensitive Position:  This position is a safety sensitive position and if it is not performed in a safe manner, can cause direct and significant damage to property, and/or injury to the employee and others around them.

Requirements:

  • All new employees are required to provide an original Police Record Check.
  • Proof of Secondary School Diploma is a must.
  • A valid driver’s license or transportation required, as this position is located in Cathcart, Ontario is not on a bus route
